Velocity · Clarity · Impact
The Seagull Management Institute develops high-velocity leaders who can assess rapidly, act decisively, and move on with purpose. Our methodology is trusted by executives across six continents.
The SMI Framework
Our proprietary framework isolates the competencies that define transformational leadership in the modern era. It is not for every manager. It is for those who are ready to lead.
After two decades of research across industries and geographies, we identified a cohort of leaders whose impact consistently exceeded their organizational tenure. They shared a remarkable set of behaviors.
We codified those behaviors into three teachable disciplines. The Seagull Framework is not a metaphor. It is a methodology.
Begin CertificationThe capacity to enter a situation at full presence and velocity. Seagull leaders do not ease in. They do not read the room for cues. They set the room's energy from the moment of arrival. Presence precedes agenda.
The willingness to surface concerns loudly, repeatedly, and without apology. Many leaders self-censor in the interest of social harmony. Seagull leaders understand that noise is signal, and silence is negligence.
The discipline to exit once your contribution has been made. Overstaying depletes the leader and creates dependence in the team. The Seagull leader delivers impact, then trusts the organization to execute. They move on. The work continues.

The CSM designation is the most recognized credential in high-velocity leadership. Holders report transformative changes in how they show up for their teams — and how their teams respond.
Our People
The SMI faculty comprises practitioners who have led at the highest levels. They do not merely teach the framework. They embody it.
The founder spent 23 years leading organizations across four continents before founding SMI in 2009. Has been described by colleagues as "unforgettable," "a force of nature," and "someone who really made their presence known." Holds a doctorate in Organizational Kinetics from a European institution they prefer not to name.
Margaret brings 18 years of executive coaching experience to the SMI faculty. Her clients describe her engagements as "intense," "clarifying," and "brief." She has facilitated organizational transformations at over 40 companies, none of which she is able to name due to confidentiality agreements.
Scott leads the SMI's flagship disengagement training and co-authored the foundational white paper "When to Leave: A Field Guide for the Decisive Executive." He joined SMI after a distinguished career in which he served in 11 VP-level roles over 14 years. He considers this a point of pride.
Priya oversees the integrity and rigor of the CSM certification process. She designed the current assessment framework, which she describes as "comprehensive but accessible." The pass rate is 97.4%. She is aware of this statistic and considers it evidence that the training is working.
Client Perspectives
"After two days with the SMI team, I walked into our all-hands with a completely different energy. I said what needed to be said. Results-wise, it's still early."
"Our manager completed the certification in April. The team has really come together since then."
"The Strategic Disengagement module alone was worth the investment. I used to feel guilty leaving before things were resolved. I don't anymore."
"I was skeptical at first. But watching Dr. Hammond Ashcroft III walk into that room and completely transform the energy in under twelve minutes — I understood immediately. I needed to learn that."
"My direct reports describe me as 'memorable.' That is the highest form of professional recognition I can imagine."
"We brought SMI in for a full organizational transformation engagement. Eighteen months later, the culture is unrecognizable. Turnover is up, which the faculty assures us is a sign of healthy movement."
"The best leaders leave a mark. The great ones know when to stop leaving it."Dr. Hammond Ashcroft III, Founder
Our Story
The Seagull Management Institute was founded in 2009 by Dr. Hammond Ashcroft III, following more than two decades of executive leadership on four continents. During that time, the founder noticed a pattern: the leaders who created the most lasting organizational change were rarely the ones who stayed longest. They arrived. They acted. They moved on.
The Institute exists to teach that pattern. To codify it. To certify those who have mastered it and provide language for a style of leadership that was, until now, observed but rarely named.
We are not a conventional leadership development firm. We do not believe in year-long journeys of personal discovery. We believe in three days of intensive, rigorous, and occasionally uncomfortable work — followed by immediate application in the field.
The SMI difference is simple: we teach leaders to show up fully, contribute without reservation, and leave without guilt.
Limited cohort sizes ensure an intensive, high-impact experience. The September 2026 Geneva cohort has 14 seats remaining.
